VP Kamala Harris greeted by protesters in Guatemala holding signs saying, “Trump Won”

Vice President Kamala Harris was greeted Monday June 7, 2021 in Guatemala by protesters telling her “Trump Won” and to “go home.”

The protesters were visible to Harris’s motorcade as she arrived to meet with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei on Monday. The meeting came a day after the countries president blamed President Biden for the migrant crisis. Saying in a CBS News interview on Sunday that the Biden administration is to blame for causing the migration crisis.

Guatemala’s president even said, “we are not on the same side of the coin” when eluding to that fact that Biden and Kamala’s policies in his words are pulling his constituents north to the United States depriving his country of the people they need to fulfill Job’s and be an integral part of the Guatemala’s society.
“We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving,” Giammattei said. A message that the current administration has failed to give and words they have failed to receive from world leaders such as Guatemala’s president.

Harris will depart Guatemala Monday evening after a full day of meetings traveling to Mexico, where she will hold more meetings on Tuesday with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Many critics would attribute the record increase of illegal immigrants to Biden’s policies. Which are a complete reversal of Former President Donald Trumps policies. In which Trump made curbing illegal immigration as he worked hard to reduce migrant caravans from Central America a top priority. Trump even went as far as to cut off foreign aid for regional governments.

Biden even ended former President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy which required asylum-seekers from Central America to remain in Mexico while US courts reviewed their claims trying to stop the overwhelming flood and give the immigration judges time to make determinations on cases without being overwhelmed.

Biden’s reversal in these policies combined with ending the construction of Trump’s US-Mexico border wall and the open urging of Congress to pass legislation that would pave a path to citizenship for most illegal immigrants has created one of the greatest migrant crisis in our lifetime.

This has led to a 21 year monthly high in US-Mexico border detentions one of the largest mass migrations of unaccompanied minors and families from the “Northern Triangle” of Central America, which includes Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Signs throughout the protest read “Kamala, Trump Won,” “Kamala, Go Home,” and “Kamala Mind Your own Business.” showing that many in Guatemala feel that this administration is not only to blame for record surge in illegal immigrants robbing their country of the human capital and ingenuity needed for a brighter future, but that some of them share in the feeling of disenfranchisement that many Americans have felt pertaining to this past election.
