Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski a member of the U.S. House of Representatives was killed in a car accident Wednesday afternoon.
Walorski was the top Republican member of the House Ethics Committee as well as the Ways and Means Committee. She was first elected in 2012 to represent Indiana’s Second Congressional District and had served three terms in the state’s legislature.
The tragic news was announced by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in statement posted on his social media account.

CBS News reported that three others were killed in the accident, Walorski’s district director Zachery Potts, her communications director Emma Thomson, and 56-year-old Edith Schmucker of Nappanee, who was the driver of the other car.
The three were riding in an SUV when Schmucker drove her car across the center divide straight into their SUV colliding with their vehicle in a head-on crash at about 12:32 p.m.
