DeSantis condemns the racially divisive theory, “Critical Race Theory” does not want it to be taught in Florida schools

DeSantis (R)- Gov. of Florida after receiving stimulus money for his state, has proposed to spend $106 million to support civics education. Under governor DeSantis’s proposal, teachers who get credentialed in teaching civics would get up to a $3,000 bonus. There would also be $16.5 million towards training teachers and school administrators in civics education. This would come from civics coaches who would hold either virtual or in-person seminars.

“Florida’s civics curriculum would incorporate foundational concepts with the best materials and it will expressly exclude unsanctioned narratives like critical race theory and other unsubstantiated theories.” DeSantis said when talking about his proposal.

DeSantis went on to say, “Let me be clear: There is no room in our classrooms for things like critical race theory,” (Critical race theory which is the theory that says there is systemic racism in the American nation and our American life and beliefs allow it to flourish i.e., the majority of Americans are racist). He went on to say, “Teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money.”

Much attention has been brought on “critical race theory” since president Trump shined a light on the issue, halting the training in federal agencies and pointing out that it tells children the American beliefs allow racism to flourish which some would say could cause people to develop an anti-American sentiment. President Trump described it as “anti-American propaganda.”

Which is why DeSantis is allocating $6.5 million to be used for developing partnerships between schools and governments in and effort to get students interested in public service and to foster a love for country. Another $17 million would go towards developing civics curricula – excluding the racially divisive “critical race theory.”

DeSantis said, “Florida will instead invest in actual solid true curriculum and we will be a leader in the development and implementation of  a world class civics education.”

Biden upon taking office signed an executive order reversing a Trump-era policy that limited the ability of federal agencies, contractors and grantees to implement racially divisive and motivated training like “critical race theory.”
